Led Zeppelin (http://www.ledzeppelin.com/)...Bugün dinlediğimiz türlü türlü müziğin temelinde hep onların etkileri var. Biz onları çok tanıyıp dinlemesek de, bizim yüz verdiğimiz şarkıcılar ya bir dönem onlarla beslenmiş ya da hala onlardan esinleniyorlar. 'Dinozor'dan kastımız işte bu. Ve Led Zeppelin tam bir dinozor grup. Bu yüzden de dinozor müzik grupları dizimizin ilkinin onlar hakkında olmasını fazla fazla hak ediyorlar.
Led Zeppelin' (http://www.led-zeppelin.com/)e sadece bir rock grubu demek doğru olmaz. Onların özelliği sadece blues'u gümbür gümbür yorumlamaları değildi; mitolojiyi, mistisizmi ve başta İngiliz folk müziği olmak üzere birçok türden müziği kendi müziklerine başarıyla kaynaştırmalarıydı. Gizemli ama samimi bir havaları vardı. Röportaj vermezler, bu yüzden basın tarafından da sevilmezlerdi; haliyle haberleri sürekli gazetelerde çıkmazdı. Grubun hayranlarıyla tek iletişimi albümler ve konserlerdi; düşünürseniz belki de en doğru olanı yani.
Albümlerinin konseptleri olurdu ve popüler olma potansiyeline sahip şarkıları single olarak çıkarmazlardı. Led Zeppelin'i diğer gruplardan ayıran en önemli fark ise müziklerinin derinliği ve çeşitliliğiydi; Eric Clapton'un Cream'i ya da Jimi Hendrix'in Experience'ı gibi blues yapmaya da meyilliydiler.
Gelelim grubun tarihine… Led Zeppelin, 1960'larda İngiltere'nin en güçlü gruplarından The Yardbirds'ün küllerinden doğmuş. Gitarist Jimmy Page, Yardbirds'e geç katılmış ama grubun 1967'de çıkan son albümü "Little Games"in üzerinde büyük etkisi olmuş. Aynı yıl, Yardbirds'den bağımsız bir iş için çalışırken John Paul Jones ile tanışmış. Jones, daha sonra yapacağı işlerde kendisiyle çalışmayı çok isteyeceğini söylemiş. O sıralarda ortada böyle bir şey olmasa bile, Jimmy Page düşündüğünden çok daha kısa sürede yeni bir grup kurmak durumunda kalacakmış. Nasıl olduğunu göreceğiz…

1968 yazında, Keith Relf ve James McCarty gruptan ayrılmış. Page ve basçı Chris Dreja, grubun isim hakları ve sonbaharda çıkacakları turda tatmin etmeleri gereken onbinlerce hayranın beklentileriyle kalakalmış. Yapacak bir şey yokmuş, Jimmy Page yeni bir vokalist ve davulcu aramaya başlamış. Terry Reid adlı bir şarkıcı ile anlaşır gibi olmuş ama son anda bir anlaşmazlık yaşamışlar.
Ağustos ayında grubun hala bir solisti yokmuş ve endişeler artmaya başlarken Terry Reid, Robert Plant adlı bir vokalisti dinlemelerini önermiş. O sırada "Hobbstweedle" adlı bir grupta şarkı söyleyen Robert Plant, 1968 Ağustosu'nun sonunda gruba katılmış. Efsane ikilinin birleşme hikayesi de işte böyle.
Robert Plant'in gruba katılmasıyla Chris Dreja ayrılmış, kadro bir türlü toparlanamıyormuş gördüğünüz gibi. Grubun sıfırdan tekrar kurulması gerekiyormuş. Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones'un kendisi ile çalışmayı ne kadar istediğini hatırlamış ve davetinin sonucunda artık bir basçıları varmış.
Robert Plant, Jimmy Page'e eski grubunun bateristi John Bonham'ı davulcu olarak almasını tavsiye etmiş. John Bonham, o sıralarda kendisine daha iyi paralar öneren gruplar olmasına rağmen Robert Plant'le olan dostluğu sebebiyle eylül ayında gruba katılmış ve böylece The Yardbirds'ün söz verdiği konserler için ekip tamamlanmış. "New Yardbirds" ismini alan grup, söz verilen bütün konserleri tamamlamış, ancak artık orijinal Yardbirds ile Jimmy Page dışında hiçbir alakaları kalmadığı için bu ismi kullanmalarının bir anlamı yokmuş, bu sebeple adlarını Led Zeppelin olarak değiştirmişler. Konserler boyunca bir ayda toparladıkları şarkıları 30 saatte kaydederek kasımda ilk albümleri "Led Zeppelin I"i bitirmişler.

Daha albüm çıkmadan konserlerini ayarlayan Led Zeppelin, Ocak 1969'da albümün çıkışıyla Amerika turnesine başlamış. Albüm çıktıktan iki ay sonra Billboard Top 10'a girmişler. 1969 boyunca Amerika ve İngiltere arasında mekik dokuyup sayısız konser vermişler. Yollarda geçirdikleri zamanı boşa harcamayıp ikinci albümdeki şarkıları hazır eden grup, Kasım 1969'da ikinci albümü "Led Zeppelin II"yi çıkarmış. Albüm çıktığı gibi bir hit olmuş ve raflarda görünmeye başladıktan iki ay sonra Billboard Top 10'un zirvesine oturmuş, yedi hafta boyunca da yerinden kıpırdamamış. "Led Zeppelin II", hayranların yarısı tarafından grubun diskografisinin en iyi albümü kabul edilir. Yeni albüm, adlarının sadece İngiltere ve Amerika'da değil, tüm dünyada duyulmasını sağlamış, sonraki yıl da çılgın gibi turlamakla geçmiş.
Led Zeppelin deyince akla gelmesi gereken birkaç şeyden biri olan İngiliz folklorü, Kasım 1970'de "Led Zeppelin III" ile iyice imzaları haline gelmiş artık. Folk müzik, mitolojik esintiler ve mistik ezgilere olan ilgileri sonraki albümde de devam etmiş. Bir sonraki albümleri "Led Zeppelin IV", ertesi yılın Kasım ayına yetişmiş.
Dördüncü albüm, o zamana kadar çıkanların en farklı olanıymış. Nasıl olmaz, kütür kütür rock "Black Dog"dan halk müziği "The Battle of Evermore"a ve ikisinin ortası "Stairway to Heaven"a baksanıza. Özellikle "Stairway to Heaven" çok ciddi biçimde hit olmuş. Bu arada bu şarkı, hiç single olarak çıkmadı ve single olarak piyasaya çıkmayan albüm şarkıları içinde radyolarda en çok çalınma rekorunu hala elinde tutuyor.
"Led Zeppelin IV", hiçbir zaman bir numaraya çıkamasa da 16 milyon kopya satarak grubun ticari anlamda en başarılı albümü olmuş, hala da satmaya devam ediyormuş. Müzikal anlamda düşünürsek, "Led Zeppelin II"yi grubun en başarılı albümü saymayan fanlar da en çok bu albümü beğenir.

Üçüncü ve dördüncü albüm için de turlara çıkmışlar, ancak ilk albüm kadar sık konser vermek yerine bu kez daha az ama daha büyük konserler vermeye başlamışlar. Yeni albüm çıkarmak için de eskisi gibi aceleleri yokmuş. 1972'de turlarını bitirdikten sonra hayranlarının görüş alanından çıkıp yeni şarkılar yazmaya başlamışlar ve 1973 baharında beşinci albüm "Houses of the Holy" piyasaya çıkmış. Yeni albüm, rock ve folk'un yanında bir miktar funk ve reggae de içeriyormuş. Bu yeni sound beklendiği gibi tepki çekmenin aksine daha da beğenilmiş. 1973 turları, o güne kadar The Beatles'ın elinde tuttuğu rekorları kırmış ve Amerika'da o döneme kadar en çok bilet satılan tur olmuş.
1974'de tatil yapmayı tercih eden grup, 1975'de kendi plak şirketleri Swan Song'dan altıncı albümleri "Physical Graffiti"yi çıkarmışlar. Albüm double olarak çıkmış ve çıktığı gibi İngiltere ve Amerika'da bir numaraya yerleşmiş. 1975 turu başarıyla devam ederken Robert Plant ve karısı bir araba kazası yaşamış, bu kaza sonucu konserler de iptal edilmiş. Led Zeppelin için çıtırtılar 1975'den sonra duyulmaya başlamış.
Robert Plant'in bir yıllık dinlenme dönemi, 1976'da çıkan "Presence" ile sonlanmış. Albüm, İngiltere ve Amerika listelerinde bir numaraya çıksa da eleştirmenlerin yorumları diğer albümlerdeki kadar heyecanlı değilmiş bu kez. Grup 1977 baharında tur için tekrar Amerika'ya dönmüş, ancak konserler başladıktan birkaç ay sonra tekrar yarıda kalmış; zira Robert Plant'in 6 yaşındaki oğlu Karac, bir mide enfeksiyonu sonucu ölmüş. Turne, konserlerin ileriki bir tarihte yapılıp yapılmayacağı açıklanmadan iptal edilmiş, grubun dağılacağı dedikoduları yayılıyormuş. Led Zeppelin'in bir açıklama yapmadan uzun süre sessiz kalması da dedikoduları doğrular nitelikteymiş.

Derken 1978'de yeni albümleri üzerinde çalıştıkları haberi gelmiş. 1979'da küçük bir Avrupa turuna çıkmışlar ve 1979'un Eylül ayında uzun zamandır beklenen albümleri "In Through the Out Door" çıkmış. Albüm, alışıldığı gibi İngiltere ve Amerika'da listelere bir numaradan girmiş. Mayıs 1980'deki Avrupa turunun arkasından grup Eylül ayında Amerika turu için provalar yaparken John Bonham'ın ölüm haberi açıklanmış. John "Bonzo" Bonham, bütün gün içtikten sonra sızmış ve uykusunda kusarak boğulmuş. Aralık 1980'de de beklenen haber gelmiş; grup bu şekilde devam edemeyeceklerini ve dağıldıklarını açıklamış.
Led Zeppelin'in grup olarak hikayesi böyle. Grup dağıldıktan sonra Jimmy Page, yayınlanmamış şarkılardan seçerek oluşturduğu "Coda" isimli albümü 1982'de yayınladı. Aynı yıl Robert Plant ve John Paul Jones solo çalışmalarına başladı ve Robert Plant'in "Pictures at Heaven" albümü çıktı. 1985'de "Live Aid" konseri için bir araya geldiler, ancak Led Zeppelin tekrar birleşecek dedikoduları gerçek çıkmadı. Robert Page, 1990'da bütün albümleri dijital olarak elden geçirip "Led Zeppelin" adlı bir box set çıkarttı ve bu set hala en çok satan box set rekorunu elinde tutuyor.
1994'de Page ve Plant, MTV Unplugged konseri için bir araya geldiler ve bu kayıt "No Quarter" adıyla yayınlandı. Bu birleşme 1998'de çıkan "Walking into Clarksdale" albümü ile devam etti, ancak albümün beklenenin çok altında satması, Page - Plant ortaklığının tekrar sonunu getirdi.
Led Zeppelin hakkındaki son havadislere gelirsek… "No Quarter", Ocak sonunda 1 milyon barajını aşarak platin plak aldı, böylece Led Zeppelin'in tüm Amerika satışları 106 milyonu geçmiş oldu.Led Zeppelin günümüzde The Beatles ve Elvis Presley'den sonra Amerika'da en çok satan 3. isimdir.Ocak ayında Led Zeppelin, Mart sonunda da Robert Plant "yaşam boyu başarı" Grammy ödülü aldılar.

Belki de asla canlı dinleyemeyeceğim için üzüleceğim bir kaç gruptan biridir. Benim için, Led Zeppelin'i ölümsüz kılan nokta köklerini reddetmeyip sıkı sıkıya blues'u kullanmaları oldu. Dünyadaki gelmiş geçmiş en iyi müzisyenlerlerden 3'ü bu gruptaydı. (Robert Plant yukarıdaki en iyi kadroma dahil değildir. Okeye dördüncü olamadı arkadaş :))
